December 20, 2024 - Pacific Swimming Announces the Passing of Harrison Race of Zone 1 North
Harrison Hayes Race, former Pacific Swimming Board Member, long-time official and dedicated volunteer of Zone 1 North, passed away December 14, 2024 at the age of 91. Harrison was a welcoming presence on deck, mentoring new members with kindness and patience. He is fondly remembered by his Pacific Swimming colleagues, coaches and athletes and Pacific Swimming sends their condolences to his family.

Congratulations to Luke Hobson, who grew up in Zone 4 and at LAKE, as he broke the World Record in the 200 Free SCM (twice) and helped the United States to set new World Records in the 4x200 Free Relay and the 4x100 Free Relay at the SC World Championships in Budapest. Click for more details.

Applications are now open to officiate at the CA/NV Spring Sectional meets in either Carlsbad or Roseville. Both meets have the identical 3 ½ day schedule beginning Thursday, February 27th and finishing Sunday evening, March 2nd. Both will be OQM opportunities for officials. December 2, 2024 - Applications Being Accepted for LSC Competition Coordinator Position with Pacific Swimming
Pacific Swimming is looking for an LSC Competition Coordinator to help tailor the services provided to ensure that we are fully benefiting all LSC athletes. The primary area of focus for this position is to analyze information from swim meets to suggest changes to the meet schedule that increases participation and performance for all athletes. It will be the responsibility of the Competition Coordinator to ensure there is a sensible progression for each level of athlete, a championship meet for each level of athlete, and to ensure that each swim meet takes place. The Competition Coordinator will need to work closely with the Age Group and Senior Committees and also meet with all other pertinent committees as plans are developed. This job is being listed as a temporary trial position with the potential to turn into a permanent position. Click for more details on how to apply.

November 21, 2024 - USA Swimming Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy (MAAPP) Has Been Revised
USA Swimming has updated the Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy as of October 16, 2024. The Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy (MAAPP) addresses one-on-one interactions, social media and electronic communications, travel: local and team, locker rooms and changing areas and massages, rubdowns and athletic training modalities. Every USA Swimming club, Zone and LSC is required to implement the MAAPP in full. Click for the link to download the newest version.

August 21, 2024 - Congratulations to Luka Mijatovic on Three Gold Medals at the Pan Pacific Games
Congratulations to Pleasanton Seahawks' Luka Mijatovic on winning gold in the 200m Freestyle, the 4 x 200m Free Relay, and the 400m Freestyle, while representing USA Swimming at the Pan Pacific Games in Australia. Luka pulled off an impressive double by swimming the 200m Free and 800m Free in the same day and achieving personal best in both strokes. In the 400m Freestyle, Luka broke a 22 year old National Age Group Record! Congratulations again, Luka!

July 29, 2024 - Congratulations to Luke Hobson on his Bronze and Silver Olympic Medals
Luke Hobson, who grew up swimming at Zone 4's Lakeridge Swim Team in Reno, NV, has earned a bronze medal in the 200m Freestyle at the 2024 Paris Olympics with a personal best time of 1:44.79! He was also part of the Men's 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay earning a silver medal with his teammates. Congratulations Luke!

Luke Hobson, who grew up swimming at Zone 4's Lakeridge Swim Team in Reno, NV, has qualified for the 2024 Olympic Team by winning the 200m Freestyle at Olympic Trials tonight in a time of 1:44.89! Luke, who currently swims for the University of Texas Longhorns, will be headed to Paris, France to represent the United States in both individual and relay spots. Congratulations Luke!

Each year, USA Swimming releases their list of the top 200 highest-performing clubs within the organization in the development of swimmers 18 and younger. Of these 200 clubs, the top 20 are dubbed "Gold Medal" clubs, the next 80 are "Silver Medal," and the final 100 are considered "Bronze Medal." Congratulations to four of our Pacific Swimming coaches that have earned the prestigious status as a 2023 ASCA Top 50 Age Group Coaches. The Top 50 coaches were selected based on USA Swimming’s National Rankings data from May 1, 2022 through April 30, 2023 for both LCM and SCY for 11-12 and 9-10 age groups. The club renewal process for 2023 is done in the new USA Swimming SWIMS 3.0 club portal. Attached to this article you will find instructions on how your club administrator can access the club portal and begin the renewal process. It is critical that you start on this prior to the holiday closure. We suggest that each club start this process as soon as possible and definitely no later than the first week in December. As the year-end approaches, it is time for each club to renew its Annual Club Membership with USA Swimming. With the introduction of Online Registration, this process is different from prior years. There is no paper form to fill out to renew, each club must renew online through their SWIMS 3.0 portal. The requirements are different now as well, as all members of the organization’s “staff” including all your Coaches/Board of Directors/Administrators (as defined in your club portal) MUST be current members in good standing. August 19, 2022 - Updated Athlete Protection Training (APT) Requirements
Effective September 1, 2022, there will no longer be a 30-day administrative grace period given to athletes after their 18th birthday to complete the Athlete Protection Training (APT) requirement. Going forward, any 17-year-old athlete who has not completed the APT requirement by their 18th birthday will not be a USA Swimming member in good standing unless or until the APT requirement is completed. This includes eligibility to compete in USA Swimming sanctioned meets, club practices and all other related activities. Athletes will continue to receive an email notification reminder of the APT requirement 30 days prior to their 18th birthday as well as a reminder on their 18th birthday. August 9, 2022 - Upcoming 2022-23 Registration Procedures
Beginning September 1, 2022, for the 2022-2023 membership year, USA Swimming Membership Registration process will be available ONLINE. Currently we are not aware of a way to register anyone besides this new online process and we will not have new forms for 2023. New and Existing members will receive a new unique 14 character alphanumeric member code to replace their existing USA Swimming ID.
Pacific Swimming will stop processing 2022 memberships received after August 14, 2022, to help with transition. Click for more information.

August 8, 2022 - New Requirement for all Adult (18+) CA-Residing Non-Athlete Members
All adult non-athlete members residing in California will be required to complete the Mandatory Reporting: Understanding Your Responsibility training course on the LEARN platform. All existing California adult non-athlete members must complete this requirement no later than November 3, 2022. If the requirement has not been met by November 3, 2022, the member will not be a member in good standing with USA Swimming unless or until such time as the training is completed; new members must complete the course as a condition of their membership. June 13, 2022 - Deck Pass to be Disconnected from TeamUnify Starting June 14, 2022
June 14, 2022 will be the last day of your Deck Pass member connection to TeamUnify. After that date, you will no longer be able to access your USA Swimming Deck Pass member information on the TeamUnify app. You will still have access to your Deck Pass account information until September 1, 2022 on the USA Swimming website and Deck Pass Plus mobile app. This change simply removes the connection to Team Unify products. Crow Canyon Sharks' Bailey Hartman has been named to the USA Swimming Junior Pan Pacific Championship team which will compete in events August 24-27 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Athletes qualified for the Junior Pan Pacific Championships via their swims at the 2022 Phillips 66 International Championships. Congratulations Bailey!

April 11, 2022 - Congratulations to 18 & Under National Open Water Champion Aidan Pflieger of RENO!
Aidan Pflieger (RENO - Z4) competed in the Open Water Nationals meet April 1-3, 2022 in both the 5K and 10K races at Ft. Myers, FL. Aidan finished in 1st Place as the National Champion for the 18 & Under age group in the 5k race. Aidan was the only athlete competing from Pacific Swimming and he is also Pacific Swimming's Senior Athlete Rep. Congratulations Aidan!

December 10, 2021 - Congratulations to LAKE's Luke Hobson on Setting a National Age Group Record
Congratulations to Lakeridge Swim Team's Luke Hobson on setting a new 17-18 National Age Group Record in the 500 Freestyle! Luke, who is now a freshman at the University of Texas, swam the 500 Free in a time of 4:09.72 last weekend at the Minnesota Invite. Luke's time shattered the old mark for the 500 Free of 4:12.33 set by Michael Phelps back in 2004! In addition, Luke is the youngest person in USA Swimming history to break 4:10 in the 500 free! Congratulations Luke!

Starting in 2021, USA Swimming will no longer send out a hardcopy version of the rulebook to officials. However, the digital USA Swimming rulebook is available online for anyone to access. In addition to being viewable online in real time, the 2021 USA Swimming rulebook can also be downloaded to all devices and is available print at any time.
To easily locate topics of interest, the PDF search function will allow searches by specific words or phrases. In addition, the 2021 USA Swimming Rules and Regulations outline is linked so you can quickly access specific content categories. Click here to view this year's official rulebook.

USA Swimming will be further extending required CPR/AED and STSC certification requirements for non-athlete coach members from March 1, 2021 to July 1, 2021, with some stipulations. January 26, 2021 - New U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Swimming Format
USA Swimming, the national governing body for the sport of swimming in the United States, in partnership with the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and the Omaha Sports Commission today announced a revised plan and schedule for the 2021 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming. The Olympic Trials will be divided into two competitions, with Wave I on June 4-7, 2021, and Wave II on June 13-20, 2021. Wave II will continue to serve as the sole qualifier for pool swimmers on the U.S. Olympic Team for the Olympic Games Tokyo 2021. Click for full details and the time standards.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of longtime Pacific Swimming official and volunteer, Rick Beebe. Rick was very active in Zone 1 North for many years, including the Zone 1N Officials Chair from 1990-1994. He also managed the Pacific Swimming website and kept track of the Pacific Swimming records for many years. Rick's work with Pacific

June 19, 2020 - Regsitrations and Athlete Protection Training (APT) Must Be Current
As teams start getting back into the water, please make sure that each swimmer (especially returning college swimmers) are current with their registrations and their Athlete Protection Training (APT). If their registrations are not current (2020 or 2021), they are not covered by the insurance. 18 & older athletes and adults must renew their APT every year as part of the Safe Sport program. May 22, 2019 - New Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy
All USA Swimming clubs are required to implement the USA Swimming Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy (MAAPP) in full by June 23, 2019. MAAPP contains five sections: one-on-one interactions, travel, social media and electronic communications, locker rooms and changing areas and massage, rubdowns and athletic training modalities. There are additional steps that our 18+ year old athletes must complete by the deadline before they are able to swim in a meet. Click for the full policy and other education materials.

USA Swimming has created a new field in Deck Pass to indicate whether the Concussion Protocol Training has been met for all coaches and officials. Please allow Pacific Swimming a week to transfer all "met" requirements to this new field from the previous field. If after December 8th, your Deck Pass still shows this category as "Not Met", you may contact the Registrar. Thank you for your patience!

May 1, 2018 - NEW Backstroke Start Certifications Effective May 1, 2018
At the 2015 USAS Convention, the USA Swimming House of Delegates adopted safety guidelines for teaching and performing backstroke racing starts. In 2018, the Operational Risk Committee’s recommendations for Backstroke Start Teaching Protocol and Certification were adopted. The recommendations took care to keep this process as streamlined as possible for coaches. This new certification is now combined with the Forward Start Certification adopted in 2009. The new requirement (Backstroke Start certification) is to be effective on May 1, 2018. Click for full details

A Senior 2 Preliminaries and Finals meet had been added to the 2017-18 LSC meet schedule. The meet is scheduled for July 13-15, 2018. It will be hosted by Walnut Creek Aquabear and held at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill. A meet sheet and other information will come out closer to the meet.
